EKSG Hails FG's Integration of Nutrition into National Logistics System




The Ekiti government has commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for adding Nutrition into the Nigeria Health Commodities Logistics Management Information System.


The Director General, Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Ayodele Seluwa gave the commendation during a 2-day training workshop organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development with support from Nutrition International on Nutrition Commodities Logistics Onboarding into the Nigeria Health Logistics Management Information System (NHLMIS).


Dr Seluwa said that the inclusion would further ensure validity and quality of nutrition Commodities across the country 


The Director General also expressed appreciation to Nutrition International for supporting the programme financially. 


He noted that nutrition was the cornerstone of good health and development particularly in children. He added that nutrition did not just prevent illness, that was about fostering growth, learning and energetic childhood.


In her opening remarks, the Director of Nutrition in the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Mrs Bako Ayegbusi said that the logistics management system was very critical noting that there was a need to onboard nutrition Commodities for visibility along the supply chain. 


Mrs Ayegbusi who was represented by Mrs Grace Mogweku explained that the new initiative would ensure availability of quality Commodities, reduce expiries and increase access to Commodities to the last mile in Nigeria and Ekiti in particular .


Earlier, the State Nutrition Officer, Dr Bolanle Olorunyomi stated that the training aimed to raise a pool of nutrition logistics managers for efficient and effective logistics management across Ekiti State.


Stressing the importance of Nutrition, Dr Olorunyomi explained  that better nutrition is related to improved infant, child and maternal health, safer pregnancy and childbirth, lower risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension as well as longevity. 


She disclosed 38 participants drawn from the State Ministry of Health, State Primary Health Care Development Agency,  Local Government Areas  and other relevant agencies took part in the training exercises.
