Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adedayo has urged youth leaders to engage in programmes and services that would make positive impact in the lives of youths in the State.
Mr. Adedayo gave the advice in Ado Ekiti at separate meetings with the two factional leaders of the State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrades Olusegun Famuyibo and Segun Bankole.
Adedayo highlighted areas that should be focused on to include character development, ethical enrichment activities as well as entrepreneurship skills that can turn youths into employers of labour and consequently reduce unemployment rate.
Reiterating the commitment of the Biodun Oyebanji administration to the welfare and development of youths, Adedayo however stressed the need for the youth leaders to notify his office of their plans, programmes and activities for proper support and guidance the ministry of any events.
He promised to intervene and put an end to the lingering crisis within the group, noting that optimal development cannot be achieved in an atmosphere devoid of peace and a house divided against itself cannot stand.
The Commissioner who stated that youths constitute greater percentage of Ekiti populace said, “70 percent out of about 2.5million of the population of Ekiti State are youth. My advocacy is to ensure that Ekiti youths key into the Mr. Governor developmental Agenda. Every home in Ekiti has at least one youth. My campaign therefore is that in every building in the state, a life is touched.
" We need to see what we can do to make sure we have a common front irrespective of the factions, to see areas of collaboration for the betterment of Ekiti youths".
Earlier, the factional youth leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Oyebanji’s administration for the apparent commitment to youth development in the state.
They however called for urgent intervention into the lingering issues relating to elections into executive positions of the NYCN in the State.
