PRESS RELEASE

The August edition of the State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise will hold on Saturday, 26th August, 2023 between hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.

According to a press release from Chief (Mrs) Tosin Aluko Ajisafe, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, all government employees are urged to clean their offices and surroundings on Friday, 25th August, 2023 before the end of the workday.

The theme for August’s environmental sanitation is “Do not Rubbish The Drainage; Avoid Flooding”.

During the monthly exercise, the Commissioner urged everyone to tidy up their surroundings.

Movement restrictions will apply to both people and vehicles throughout the exercise, with the exception of individuals involved in official responsibilities as well as essential duties and service.

In addition, she advised locals and business owners to properly dispose of their wastes and clear the drainage systems in front of their structures.

The Commissioner also cautions all vendors at the various markets to take advantage of the occasion to clean their stores and booths and to make sure that any rubbish is properly disposed of and not dumped into the drains.

All marketplaces and commercial settings are closed until 10am

Chief Mrs Aluko stressed that in order to oversee the exercise throughout the state, Environmental Health Officers from the State and Local Government, NGO's, and Security agencies will be present.

For the purpose of prosecuting violators of environmental health and sanitation laws, Mobile Courts shall be in operation across the State.

All Ekiti residents are urged by the Commissioner to maintain a clean environment, especially now that we are fully in the raining season.
