Ekiti Athletes participating in the ballgames have today, begun their quest to qualify for the 7th edition of the National Youth Games slated for September, 2023.
The General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Commission, Mr Kunle Adeyemi made this known at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, in Ado Ekiti stating that the athletes were in high spirits to begin their qualification process at the South West Zonal elimination tournaments at Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mr Adeyemi stated that all Ekiti athletes at the tournament had been properly screened on their arrival at the venue and also ensured that they all passed the eligibility test of presenting athletes aged 15 years and below.
He noted that the State contingent would participate in some of the ballgames which includes Football, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Handball and Volleyball.
Adeyemi expressed optimism that the State contingent would perform well as they slug it out with Osun, Lagos, Ondo and the host, Oyo.
Reiterating the commitment of the Oyebanji led administration to the development of sports in the State, the GM said that the Governor of the State has instructed that the welfare of athletes and coaches be prioritized as he has charged the athletes to put in a good performance and make the State proud.
