The Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the
State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA) and the State Roads Funds (SRF) bills.
The two bills are aimed at the establishment
of a Road Fund Board in the state, and proper maintenance and rehabilitation of
deplorable roads.
The
bills titled Ekiti State Rural Access Roads Authority bill, 2023 and Ekiti
State Roads Funds bill, 2023 were passed at plenary on Tuesday.
The lawmakers had, after thorough deliberations on the bills, noted that the bills would have positive
impact on the living standard of Ekiti people, most especially farmers who
would have access to good roads to transport farm produce.
They
agreed that the two bills would complement each other towards promoting and
sustaining development in the maintenance of all classes of state roads in
Ekiti.
In
her contributions, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Olubunmi Adelugba commended
the lawmakers for their thorough considerations of the bills and expressed
confidence that the implementations of the bills would enhance social and
economic wellbeing of Ekiti people.
The
two bills were unanimously passed and read for the third reading by the Clerk
of the House, Mr Tola Esan.
It is recalled that the State Rural Access
and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) under the leadership of the State
Project Coordinator, Hon. Sunday Adunmo, had a fortnight ago held a 2-day meeting
with key stakeholders followed by a workshop on the workings of RARA and SRF.
