AGILE TRAINS COUNSELORS & TUTORS ON SAFE SPACES

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has commenced a 5-day Training of Trainers workshop on Safe Space for selected Counselors from various parts of Ekiti state.


While declaring the training open, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science and Technology , Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye, said that the safe space project was aimed at improving the adolescent girls' access to secondary education, using secondary schools as platform to empower girls.


The Special Adviser who disclosed that the safe space project was for both adolescent girls and boys, charged parents to pay more attention to all their adolescent children.


In her address, the Project Coordinator, Mrs Oluwayemisi Alokan said that the safe space life skills training programme curriculum covers four main modules, which include Life skills key topics, health awareness and promotion, GBV/SEA awareness and safety and climate change.


Alokan stressed further that the safe space session will be facilitated by the guidance and counseling unit, with the support of AGILE planning implementation unit and the new initiative for social development from 194 senior secondary schools in Ekiti state.


According to the project coordinator, a two step approach would be employed for a successful implementation of the programme, which include the training of trainers on Safe Space curriculum as well as Cascade Training of Safe Space curriculum for guidance, counselors and mentors.


In his contribution, the Team Lead for New Initiative for Social Development, NISD, Steve Tsado in his remarks said the project will provide technical support for facilitation of safe spaces in Secondary schools in the State


Also, the Team lead of the National Project Coordinating Unit, Mr Abraham Sunday said the Trainers should be observant and pay attention to the Adolescents because of their dynamic attributes 


Responding on behalf of others, one of the participants, Mrs Olukemi Adedoyin appreciated the NISD and Ekiti AGILE for organising the training in the State.


The Training which began on Monday 30th January would run through Friday 3rd February, 2023.
