POLICE APPREHEND SEVEN FOR CULTISM IN EKITI

The Ekiti State Command of the Nigerian Police has disclosed that it arrested seven suspected cultists last Sunday in Omuo Ekiti.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, the seven suspected cultists were apprehended around a Quarry Site in Omuo Ekiti during their meeting and initiation new members.

The arrested suspects who were said to have confessed to belonging to the Eiye Confraternity were caught with "registration notebook" containing their names and ranks.

Abutu who issued the statement on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police said though efforts are in top gear to apprehend other cultists who are at large, the arrested suspects would be arraigned accordingly. 

"The Anti-Cultism Unit of the Ekiti State Police Command, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Omuo-Ekiti Unit, on 17/07/2022 at about 19:00hrs, arrested seven (7) suspected cultists. The arrested suspects are: Gbenga Abiodun Oluwatobi 26yrs, Akinola Ademola Ojo 22yrs, Rotimi Tolulope 35yrs, Samuel Sesan 22yrs, Abiodun Adeleke 42yrs, Olagunju Temitope 21yrs and Adekunle Oluwaseun 24yrs".

"The suspects were arrested around Broni-Broni Quarry construction site in Omuo-Ekiti where they were having their meeting and initiation of new members. The arrested suspects confessed that they are members of Eiye confraternity group and were having their usual meeting and registration of their new members when they were arrested", he said.
