EKITIDECIDE2022: FAYEMI HAILS INEC ON BVAS

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has urged the electorate to comport themselves in good manner and remain vigilant as they come out to exercise their civic duty.

Governor Fayemi who was accompanied by the First Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, voted at ward 11, Unit 9 Ogilolo, Isan Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area.

The governor called on all eligible voters to come out to perform their civic duty and make sure they comply with the rules and regulations governing the conduct of election.

"I urge all of us to remain vigilant and accord the security agencies and other relevant authorities our full cooperation," he stressed.

Speaking on the process of the exercise, the Governor described the voting process as seamless and time saving,  with a pass mark on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, (BVAS) gadget deployed to his voting unit.

Fayemi noted that it was too early to make comments on the conduct of the election but would give INEC a pass mark if the seamless process he experienced was sustained to the end of the voting process.

"It is a pretty smooth exercise, our people are calm, they are all queued up to vote, the officers were dutiful and the BVAS worked and in my verification and accreditation exercise, if everything goes this way INEC would have been given a pass mark at the end of the day but as I said it is a very early days we can not pass a judgement about what INEC has done."

Speaking on the electoral act amendment and introduction of BVAS, Fayemi said it has proved effective in time saving and would increase turn out of voters during the election.

"Well, my PVC is still recognized and this is the PVC have been using since the very beginning of this process here 

"One thing that has changed here is that the new process save time, you know we used to come first for accreditation between 8am and 12 noon for everybody to do their accreditation and then you go back and come back to vote but that process is now seamless, accreditation is done simultaneously with voting and I think that will save us time and probably increase turn out as well because the period spend by each voter has reduced if BVAS worked".
