...Hails Annunciation School Old Boys' Support
The Ekiti State Government has called for a more robust partnership that would augment its efforts in revamping the State's education sector.
Speaking in Ikere Ekiti at a ceremony marking the official handing over of the newly renovated Principal's office at Annunciation Secondary school, Ikere Ekiti, the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Babatunde Abegunde said the Fayemi-led administration had invested immensely on the education sector but the gesture must be complemented by Alumni Associations and well meaning individuals.
Abegunde who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Commission, Mrs Omowumi Adewumi stated that despite the free and compulsory education in the State, many parents still found it difficult to provide writing materials and uniforms for their children and wards.
The Commission chairman who commended the efforts of the 1990 set of the Annunciation School Old Boys' Association for executing several projects in the School urged the Old Boys to initiate the "Adopt a Student" policy which is aimed at sponsoring children whose parents are unable to meet the education needs of their children.
He added that education in some schools recently taken over by missions may become unaffordable for brilliant but poor students hence the need for Alumni Associations to assist in bringing the dreams of those students to reality.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Bimpe Aderiye had highlighted the efforts of the Fayemi-led government in the sector.
Aderiye who was represented by Mr Mike who is Director, Planning and Research in the Ministry called on private and corporate organizations and individuals to support the Knowledge Economy agenda of the government since Ekiti is known as fountain of knowledge.
Earlier, the Project Coordinator of the 1990 set of the Old Boys Association, Dr Olukayode Ibijola had explained the rationale behind the renovation of the principal's office.
Ibijola said the set decided to embark on the project in order to ensure a conducive work environment for the principal from whom much is expected as the head of the school management.
The Project Coordinator disclosed that modern office equipment including Air Conditioner were provided in the renovated office, a project which he put at over Two Million Naira.
The National President of the Association, Mr Tayo Fakehinde who was represented by his Vice, Mr Samson Orogun hailed the 1990 set for also contributing to the development of the school.
He listed the ongoing renovation of the School chapel, provision of toilets in the hostels and the school compound and the renovation of the school kitchen as some of the projects which the Old Boys Association had carried out.
In his response, the acting Principal of the School who is also an Old Boy, Mr Taiwo Adedara thanked the 1990 set for the gesture and called on others not to abandon the school that made them.
