Ekiti Commences Checking of Vehicle Papers

No fewer than 52 vehicles and 120 motorcycles have been impounded by law enforcement agents in Ekiti State for infractions ranging from improper registration to expired license, insurance and roadworthiness.

The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunmilade who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said that the State had commenced a massive enforcement drive for appropriate renewal of vehicles’ particulars and driver’s licenses as well as proper registration of vehicles through the combine effort of officials of the Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Police and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs).

Mr. Ogunmilade explained that the development was part of efforts to ensure safety and security as well as generate revenue for the State, stressing the need for a robust revenue generation to boost infrastructural development in the State.

Warning that there would be no sacred cow, Mr. Ogunmilade said that the vehicles impounded would only be released when the owners complete all documentation, adding that recalcitrant vehicle owners would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Ogunmilade also warned prospective vehicle owners and those with old number plate to be wary of touts in the process of registering their vehicles, stressing the importance of dealing directly with the Internal Revenue Services for all forms of documentation.
