Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Alhaja Maryam Ogunlade has reiterated the commitment of the Fayemi led administration to the rights, safety and education of children as the State joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Girl-Child Day.
Alhaja Ogunlade who gave this assurance in Ado Ekiti noted that apart from making education free, compulsory and qualitative, the State Government took other painstaking steps to protect the rights of the girl-child such as enacting laws against Gender Based Violence in the
State and initiating the “keep our girls in school programme”.
Ogunlade added that the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi is particularly passionate about the protection of the rights of the girl-child and a strong advocate that government should pay attention to the sexual health and rights of adolescent girls.
According to her, not protecting the upbringing of the girl-child can lead to societal degradation.
Describing this year’s theme “Digital Generation. Our Generation” as apt, Ogunlade said that the State Government is aware that the digital gap in the growing digital world can widen the gender gap and access
to education.
She advised parents and guardians to take advantage of the liberal administration to improve the lot of their children, stressing the need to support efforts of government at providing opportunities and wherewithal for their female children to succeed.
The Commissioner also counseled parents to concentrate more on improving the family system in the country in order to achieve the desired goals.
