Ekiti agency warns against indiscriminate erection of billboards.

The Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Agency has warned against indiscriminate erection of billboards in the State and called for strict compliance to specifications and ethical standards.

The Director General (DG) of the agency, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede who gave the warning in Ado Ekiti, said that unlawfully erected billboards in any part of the State would henceforth be confiscated by the State Government.

Onipede stressed that it had become imperative to take action on the nuisance value of actions of some marketers, adding that recalcitrant billboard owners that erect billboards without due approval would also be prosecuted in line with extant rules and regulations guiding signage and advertisement in the State.

He said “those destroying the beauty of our towns with unapproved billboards and other forms of street advertisement will, henceforth, be put under check in the State”.

According to him, the agency would soon embark on an aggressive outdoor regulation and revenue generation drive as part of its statutory functions as one of the top revenue-generating agencies in the State.

He said that the Agency’s operation officers have been directed to be courteous but firm stressing the need for them to redouble their efforts in revenue generation for the state to attain the set goals.

Onipede solicited the continued support of the people for the efforts of government to develop the State adding that revenue generated from the payment of their signage fees contribute tremendously to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) which is used to develop the State.
