The Ekiti State Government has appealed to resident doctors in the State Univeristy Tecaching Hospital (EKSUTH) who have embarked on industrial action to reconsider their decision and return to their duty posts.
In a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani and his Information and Values Orientation counterpart, Hon. Akinbowale Omole , the state government said that the development was a source of concern as the doctors actions was reportedly premised on the unusual delay in the payment of their June salary.
The duo said the government appreciates the understanding of all government workers, especially the health workers during this fiscally challenging time; adding that the welfare of the health and medical workers in the state remains a major priority of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration.
While urging the medical and health practitioners to remain calm and dedicated to duty by calling off their strike action, the government t said such an industrial action was ill-timed as a time that the government was still knee-deep in fighting the COVID 19 pandemic.
The government officials appealed to the striking workers to reconsider their position and continue to engage the government on how best to resolve the industrial dispute, noting that the strike action could be counterproductive considering the nature of their services in the state.
The duo who assured the people of Ekiti State of better healthcare service delivery stated that the government has embarked on massive renovation of both primary and secondary health facilities across the state, adequately equipping them with modern medical equipment and commodities to guarantee a conducive working environment for our health workers across the state.
