Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services has warned individuals and organisations fond of embarking on public health outreaches without the approval of the State Government.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Akinjide Akinleye, mni, on behalf of the commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Oyebanji Filani described the practice as unwholesome, unacceptable and condemnable.
The statement came on the heels of an organisation which announced purported free eye surgeries and medical consultations without the formal approval of health authorities in the State.
While warning against the practice, Mr. Akinleye stated that henceforth the state would take disciplinary action against the promoters of such illegal medical/health outreaches.
He also urged the general public to be weary of such outreaches because of the risks posed to their health.
He encouraged the residents to patronise public health institutions because of the proven quality of service being provided in line with the policy direction of the state.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated the commitment of the State Government to the wellness of Ekiti residents through various interventions and admonished the people to refrain from patronising quacks and unauthorized health facilities.
Mr Akinleye reemphasized the need for Private Healthcare Providers that wish to render ad hoc Healthcare Services to obtain clearance from the Ministry of Health and Human Services failing which would attract sanctions.
