Commissioner Charges Information Officers on ICT Compliance, Smart Goals.

Information officers in Ekiti State have been charged to be ICT
compliant in order to remain relevant in the scheme of things.

The State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon.
Akin Omole gave the charge during a one-day training programme
organized by his Ministry for newly recruited Information Officers
into the State Civil Service.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry, Mr. Femi Adedipe stressed the need for the officers to be
able to favourably compete with their counterparts globally to enable
them discharge their duties with relative ease.

He emphasized that though the Fayemi led administration does not
believe in propaganda, Information Officer should be able to
effectively inform the people about the policies, programmes and
activities of Government and simultaneously inform Government of
happenings in every nooks and cranny of the State through their
reports.

Omole stressed that Information Officers should act as bridge between
government and the governed, adding that they must therefore set
achievable goals for themselves and strive to live up to their
responsibilities.

Reiterating the commitment of the present administration to the
training and retraining of workers in the State towards achieving and
maintaining a virile workforce, the Commissioner said that the
training would be continuous in line with the knowledge economy of the
administration in spite of the prevailing economic meltdown and its
attendant paucity of funds.

One of the resource persons, the Director, Bureau of Information and
Communication Technology, Mrs. Bosede Abayomi recommended the
procurement of computer laptops and other basic tools for Information
Officers to enhance their performance.

Other resource persons at the training programme include the Director,
Values Orientation Department, Mrs. Adesola Fadiran; Director,
Information Services Department, Mr. Oyetunde Oyebode as well as the
Director, Admin and Supplies, Mr. Taiwo Adetule.

One of the participants, Mr. Deji Fatoba who spoke on behalf of his
colleagues, expressed gratitude to Governor Kayode Fayemi and the
Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon. Akin Omole
for the laudable program and pledged to discharge their duties to the
best of their ability.
