.....To probe Fumigation of School Premises

The Ekiti State Government has appealed to the protesting students of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero Ekiti to maintain calm after over 100 of them were hospitalized as a result of ill-timed fumigation exercise at the College.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Oyebanji Filani after visiting the College stated that 65 of the hospitalized students have been discharged, 36 still hospitalized at the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero, 2 have been referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, while one was taken to ABUAD Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for further treatment and observation.
Dr Filani who assured the students, parents and the Ijero community that the situation was under control stressed that more doctors and other medical personnel have been deployed to attend to the case.
He added that logistics have been provided in addition to the existing team to facilitate faster and better treatment of the affected students.
"We regret this situation and we are closely monitoring the hospitalized students to ensure they fully recover." He said.
The Health commissioner said that the state Governor is extremely concerned about the welfare and security of the people of the state.
"We hereby appeal to the students of the college to remain calm and not destroy health equipment and facilities as this could have negative counter effect on the situation".
Dr. Filani hinted that the state government would probe the fumigation exercise and disclosed that the Federal Fire Service officials that carried out the exercise have been handed over to the Nigeria police for questioning and investigation.
"We are also in close communication with the school and other concerned bodies to ensure that we investigate the incident to prevent future occurrence. The fumigators have been handed over to the police for questioning", he stated.
